Is there an easy way to determine the correct field order for an interlaced DVD source?

Yes . It is Top field first.
If you get VirtualDubMod , on the file open menu there
is a "popup extended option" checkbox that lets you separate or reverse
fields. You can watch that and see if its right
Edit: Never mind. I just tried it and it apparently only works for AVIs.
