I just upgraded my whole computer and was looking into buying a new monitor, at the same time i was also looking into buying an hdtv. I was thinking of just going for an hdtv for my computer monitor. My question was, how it would look going from my s-video out on my geforce 4mx to hdtv's svideo in? I also saw a Zenith hdtv with svga inputs and was wondering if im better off getting that one or would it look better buying a regular hdtv and going svideo. Please help , your input would be greatly appreciated as im new to this!!!!!!!

Heres a link to the Zenith with Svga inputs

  2. Well i could only look at the zenith picture the only problem i see with it is the resolution for svga 800x600. thats the max. I have looked at alot of these tv's in the past months. I almost bought a toshiba lcd 27" when i found the samsung dlp 43" for the same price. I would defenlently stay away from a rear projection tv cause they suffer from burn-in on the screens. I would only go with LCD, DLP, or a Plasma the only problem i found with the plasmas was the resolution was 800x600 or 800x480 to get a higher res. in a plasma you better be ready to spend alot of jack. I have heard of stories that plasmas burn-in to but i have never seen it myself from anyone that i know that has one and done this. The DLP is on the same technology as a front projector it has a color wheel that spends to create the picture. The DLP is the only TV that has a less then 1% burn-in probability. The samsung i have has a svga and a dvi input for computer hookup i run my res. at 1024x768 and i am very pleased with it.

So if i were to buy a videocard with dvi-out and an hdtv with dvi-in i could get higher resolutions than going svga out from my video card to svga in on an hdtv? If so then i should be looking into getting an hdtv with dvi-in?

  8. I use the ati 9600 with dvi & vga out i have used both inputs for doing this i really didnt see a whole lot of differnce except the colors looked more vivid with the dvi connection. As for the res. the max i can get with the tv is 1280x960 but it goes off the screen edge you have to reset alot of settings the manual for the tv says put it on 1024x768 and to me that looks better than the 1280 setting. I play all my video games at the same setting i tryed some at 800x600 but the 1024 is alot better.

  9. If you're getting an hdtv, then absolutely get one with DVI input.. avsforum.com has a wealth of information on this topic.. Look under HTPC setup (home theater PC).

  10. You also need a hdtv tuner to get hdtv stuff, plus a hdtv vcr if you want to record....

Or:dell SB, nice 20" lcd for $749.00 with dvi inputs & s-video input too.
