  1. When ripping one of my DVDs and converting to DivX using DVDx, I noticed the audio was always out of sync when playing back the avi. I tried rencoding the video seperately and ripping the audio using DVD2AVI and remuxing and offsetting the audio using VDUB, but the audio was still off sync, especially towards the end. I came to look at the audio stream and noticed that the decoded wav was about 7 seconds longer than the video stream suggested by both FlaskMPEG and DVDx. I tried demuxing the AC3 instead, and it was 8 second slonger than the audio. I have also noticed that another DVD rip I did was also significantly off sync, despite my efforts to remux and offset the audio in VDUB. Any explanations and advice (except for suggesting me to use Vidomi or GKnot - vidomi has always givven me terrible results and GKNot automatically downsamples audio at bitrates below 128 kbps and is nothing more than a souped up DVD2AVI-->AviSynth-->Vdub+Besweet encoding app) would be greatly appreciated.

  4. I had a similar problem, with the audio being longer than the video. It was due to the original DVD.

I was using DVD2SVCD and it was grabbing the full video and full audio (main movie and extras all in a row) from the DVD instead of just the Main Movie. And in doing so, the audio was longer than the video due to pauses inbetween the extras. I shrunk the audio to the same size as the movie and still a no go. I was going out of my head, until...

I used DVD shrink to pull the main movie from the DVD (no compression), then converted as usual.

Turned out nice, hope your problem is as easy to solve as mine.

    Good luck.

EDIT: Hmm, if you're having problems with AVIs too, make sure you're running nothing else in the background.

  5. I use DVD decrypter to only rip the main movie files. What I don't understand is no matter what porgram I use, the audio ends up being a few seconds longer than the audio. Now I can eventually fix this up in VDUB, but the resulting AVI ends up being as long as the audio stream. How can I use mysoftware of chice and not get this stupid drift audio sync. What is the cause?? I tried using SmartRipper but I hated it b/c it was slower than decrypter and it ouldn't rip my scratched DVD whereas Decrypter was successful with only a few ignored read erros (no final effect). Before I reinstalled my OS, I did not have this problem. Again, my biggest question centers around DVD2AVI, a simple stable program. All my encoding apps will agree on the actuall movie length based on the .ifo file I load. But DVD2AVI demuxes/decodes a longer audio file than the move length, and my encoding apps hence end up encoding an avi that is longer than the actual movie. Help me prevent the problem before it starts!!
