  1. Hi,
    I have a problem burning widescreen/16:9 movies.
I use my Sony digital8 camcorder to record, and I record with the "widescreen" function on. I use Ulead VideoStudio 7 to capture, make and burn the movie on to a DVD+RW, but when I play it on my standalone DVD player (-or pc for that matter), the movie is shown as a 4:3 movie (tall people) on my widescreen tv!!

This even happends, when I burn movies, that I KNOW are 16:9 on my pc, but when are burned on the DVD, are shown as 4:3.

This somehow tells me, that the DVD authoring software is burning my 16:9 movies in 4:3.

PLEASE someone tell me how to solve this...
    I´ve tried everything!!!

    My equipment:
    Sony TRV-503 Digital8 camcorder (503 I think ?!), from the year 1999
    HP200i DVD+R/RW recorder
a standalone Sony DVD player from 2003
Sony 28" Widescreen TV from 1999.

Can you set any 16:9 aspect ratio in videostudio? I don't think so. If you can convert to a 16:9 mpg you can use tmpgenc dvd author and it will keep the 16:9 when you author and burn.

I think you can use ifoedit also and manually change the authored files to 16:9.

  3. There is no 16:9 function/button in VS7, but it renders the movies in 16:9. It´s just in the burning process, that the movies are converted to 4:3, eventhough they are 16:9!

Can any of you reccomend a burning program, that lets you choose between 4:3 or 16:9, when you burn dvd´s ???
I´would prefer a simple burning program, that has the possibility to create dvd menus and so on...

    Please help! -Anybody!!

  4. You may confusing the DAR that VS7 renders in (720x480) for 16:9 - as far as I know, VS7 renders in 4:3 resolution only

If this is true then as mentioned before you can use IFOEdit to change the properties of the IFO files to read 16x9 instead of 4:3

It works and is not very hard to do either.
