Hi everybody,
I recently bought "SKY" dvd-r's from Compcdr.com.
I had bad luck with them, seems my Pioneer dvd-r/w DVR103 doesn't like them at all,. I tried using different programs but without success.
My question is, has anyone tried this media and if yes what were your results? (I know I'll never get this crap again)
Funny part is, it works fine on my Panasonic DMR-E80H recorder.
Thanks[/b]

I have burned about 100 of the Sky 2X DVD-R with no bad burns and all at 2X. Some were burned on my pioneer 105 but most on the Sony DRU-500ax. Also a few were used in my Panisonic E50 DVD recorder. Bottom line I like them.
Now I may like the 2X Sky media however the 4X Sky DVD-R are not so good. These discs only burn at 2X on any of my burners. I have yet to have a bad burn but sadly no 4X. -
Thanks Bob for your reply.
Which programs do you use to burn onto these dvd-r's?
Thanks -
RecordNow Max and my Sony burner is on a Win2000 system while the pioneer 105 is on a WinXP machine. Just a guess but maybe your burner is a bit old. Perhaps if you updated the firmware that may fix the issues you're having.
For the record I have had great success with TDK 2X or 4X DVD-R and DVD+R, cheap 1X CompUSA DVD-R which burns at 2X on my Sony burner, Ritek 4X DVD-R, and Princo 4X inkjet printable DVD-R media. -
I too use TDK 2x dvd-r's and Princo media with no problems at all.
Also, I updated my drive with the latest firware from Pioneer.
I guess my drive just doesn't like this one.
Thanks for you help Bob -
just curious, I have an NEC ND1300A, I have good branded (FUJI) dvd+r's, that are 4x compatible, why cant I record at 4x, limits me at 2.4x

number 2 and 3 check ...
How do you set the burning to NOT limit the speed? (unless you are refereing to the burn program. I use Nero, and the only option it gives me is 2.4x, it doesnt have an option for MAX Speed like cd burning was for me -

examine one of your burnt Fuji's with DVDInfo Pro. it will show you all the possible burn speeds with that media. if 4x is listed then something is wrong with Nero or how it's set up. if there is no 4x entry you have 2x media. might also try a diff burning prog. if $$ is a problem convert files to image with ImgTools and burn image with DVD Decrypter. good luck.
