  1. I'm thinking about buying (or upgrading) my editor/compositor. If I was to buy today, I would choose either upgrading to MediaStudio pro 7 or buying vegas video 4. Both are about the same price. Is there any compelling reason to buy one over the other. Is vegas video, which was recently acquired by Sony, more stable than msp. I also wonder about vegas 4.0 now that sony owns it.

    any suggestions?

I don't use either one. If your allready comfortable with MSP, you may want to upgrade.

Then again Vegas has a much better encoder (Mainconcept) and I think it comes with an ac3 plugin. But it's your choice.
Got my retirement plans all set. Looks like I only have to work another 5 years after I die........

  3. Between the two I would go with Vegas for sure, but you may also want to consider Premiere Pro.

  4. Go with Vegas 4 !!!... there's no question about it !!!
BTW... I quit premiere since Vegas 3.0.. now premiere wants to go "pro" with all the features Vegas always has had.....

  5. Have they fixed the problem with ac3 encoding with vegas4/dvd architect? Everytime I try to encode with it, it fails somewhere towards the end. I have never been able to use it for a successful conversion, so I just gave up. I just use Sonic Dvdit PE, now.

  6. I've never had problems with that (encoding to AC3)...
I've made hundreds of DVDs (all sizes) with Vegas & DVD arch and all of them plays without a problem on PC and home players.....

  7. Thanks for the info. I have recently figured out the problem causing me to consider an upgrade. I was unable to coax MSP to produce a DVD compliant mpeg. I had the DVD plugin but when I upgraded my PC, I lost that and the encoding settings in MSP. MSP would not let me set the encoder props to 48k sound. I found a note on ULEAD's site with a registry entry that expsoses all of the ligo's settings. I did that and everything is fine. So -> because I am cheap -> I think I will hold on to msp 6 right now. If I was buying, I think I would choose vegas 4 without DVD arch. What i need is video overlay tracks for compositing. Ulead allows 99 (or more??) as does vegas.

I don't know much about DVDit, but it does not sound like it does compositing. Sounds like authoring to me.

I use DVD lab for authoring and recordnow for burning.
