  1. I'm using a Pinnacle DC10+ to capture on a PIII 733Mhz with 384Mb Ram and a 40Gb 7200Rpm HDD. When I capture at 320x240 it works perfect with no dropped frames but when I try 640x480 the dropped frames go up faster than the timer. I'm using the software that came with the card. Does anyone know if there is a way to capture 640x480 without dropping too many frames?

    Thanks.

    Try with VIRTUALDUB.
In this site click on the "OTHER" => TOOLS" (you can see in the left side on this page)and after "Capture item" to dowload the VIRTUALDUB freeware soft.
    Good luck!

  3. As lafamar says, you may use Virtual Dub.
    Tips:
    1) color must be YUV2, not RGB
    2) use a codec like huffyuv, it doesn't need much cpu power

  4. Make sure you have DMA enabled for your hard drive in Device Manager and in your BIOS. I'd also capture with the DC10+'s native MJPEG because using any other codec will just be a waste of CPU power. Using VirtualDub or AVI_IO is a good idea though.

the problem is that if u want to capture 640x480 u first need to check wich is the highest bit rate in dma mode of your hdd. Probably if u push an higher bitrate value than the supported one (in writing mode) of your hdd u have dropped frames in measure on how is bigger the sampling rate (=bit rate)

It doesnt matter what is your cpu , ram
    U want the best.
    try with Ulvd scsi3 ( i suggest 29160 ctrl), you'll arrive up to 180 Mbytes/sec in raid config !!!!!
is it expensive? try 2 hdd ATA100 in raid configuration. Remember that the hdds MUST be the same.

don't cap at 640x480, cap at 608x464 (enable the tv cropping), all should be fine even @ 6000KB/s.

    On my Duron 850 I cap @ 604x464 6000KB/s using 4% cpu. So you shouldn't have a problem.

There isn't any reason to use V-Dub, unless you want to cap at 480x480. Studio locks the A/V sync and splits files at 2gig already.

Markus Zingg, author of AV_IO, help write the software for the DC10+, so there isn't any reason to use that software either.

The card doesn't support any other codec. Nor does it support any other resolutions than provided for in the factory software, other than 480x480.
