I need some advice here. I want to capture from my Canon Optura 20 (DV) to AVI on the computer. After capture, the AVI file look nice but when changing the display to FULL SCREEN, the video is interlace a bit. So is there a good capture setting for DV (hard drive space is not an issue) ?

And for authoring, I'm testing 2 softwares: Ulead Video Studio 7 and ArcSoft ShowBiz. I prefer ShowBiz, because It has better transitions, but it doesn't let you change the MPEG settings (higher bit rate for example...)

So any suggestions on how to capture to the best format, and how to generate a mpeg (or mpeg2) file for SVCD (and later DVD)...

    Thanks for your time.

  2. DV is interlaced. To display correctly on a PC monitor use a playback program that will de-einterlace on the fly. PowerDvd will do this amongst others. If you intedn to finally display on a TV (via DVD) do not de-interlace.

For best quality DVD's use your editing programs (Ulead Video Studio 7 or ArcSoft ShowBiz) to edit, then save from there to DV AVI, Then use a standalone mpeg encoder (TmpGenc, Mainconcept, CCe etc) to convert the avi to DVD compliant mpeg-2. Then use TmpGenc DVD author, or DVD-Lab etc to author the DVD.

VideoStudio will also deinterlace if you choose "frame based" rather than "Field Order A/B" for MPEG rendering. I haven't examined the quality very closely, but it's all right there in the same application if speed and simplicity is what you're looking for.

VS also comes with a basic DVD authoring feature. If you're looking to simply get the home movies on DVD without a lot of headaches, this package does pretty well.

And if you burn a DVD and play it back through most software-based DVD players on your computer, it will handle the de-interlacing for you.
