Bought this player the other day, however, it succs. I can play CDs containing small files (MPGs, DivX, etc.). However, what it does not play is: VCDs, SVCDs, regardless of the file-size. Further, it plays DivX-files only if they are relatively small (I havn't found out yet up to which file size exactly). Once I put in a CD with has one complete file of e.g. 645 or 695 MB on it, the player would not recognice the disc and say "NO DISC". I have tried all kinds of things, like NOT using GMC, Quarter Pixels and bidirectional encoding - nothing helped. I then installed the firmware update which is offered on the Loomax homepage - no change either. 4 days ago already I contacted the Loomax support by eMail - no reply so far.
I guess I made a very bad buy - this player doesn't seem worth a penny. Or can anyone give me advice on how to overcome all these problems ?

I'm checking the Loomax X-50 out for a friend - the one I have has not had it's firmware upgraded as the Loomax site is unavailable at present.
It does play 1999MB divx files direct from a DVD-RW, it will play S/VCD files from a CD-R or DVD-R, files are 700MB to 1000MB in size.
Remote is fiddly and the unit seems to have problems reading files near the end of a DVD-R e.g. 8 TV episodes on a DVD-R as 8 AVI files. The first 6 AVI files play fine but I get errors reading last 2 files. All eight files can be read using a PC.
Fireware upgrade may fix the above
