  1. Hi,

I have a few XviD files I want to play back, but it's having trouble. One file starts off with the screen being completely green, then moving parts of the image kind of displace it. The image all runs into itself like keeping a camera shutter opening and exposing film to a moving image. It's horrible!

The other file just has loads of green blocks and very few moving blocks, and the image is totally obscured.

I have installed the latest XviD codec. What's up with it?

    Thanks in advance!

The oldest XviD problem in the book. Install ffdshow, and if you still get this problem, use the four cc changer.

  3. mats.hogberg,

Thanks for the advice - it's worked perfectly on the files that were "smeary". It's also removed all the green from the other file, but it's still smeary.

What is "Four CC"? I have found it but I don't know what it does.

If it helps, the file I am having trouble with is a .ogm file.

    Thanks again!

OGM is like AVI but another format - it's a "container" format. The fourcc changer works with AVI only AFAIK. Many XviD probs can be overcome by cheating, and by changing XviD to DivX, to make the DivX decoder do the work instead of the hardtogettoworkproperly XviD decoder. As they are both mpeg4 (XviD & DivX), a DivX decoder can decode XviD too. ffdshow seems to be a GP mpg4 decoder, that works very well.

  5. OK, I sorted the poor playback of the .OGM files!

I installed the Kazaa codec pack except DivX, in a last-ditch attempt to get this thing to go. It did!

I'm not sure what cured it, but it did. Anyone else having problems? Install this pack and see if it helps!

Thanks, mats.hogberg, for your advice. It's appreciated.
