  1. Hello I have been having some problems with my uncles cpu. I have used smartripper with my cpu with great success but when i used on my uncles cpu it only worked for a few times the first day now it tells me "cannot unlock drive try unlocking with a player" so i tryed that played for 1 min closed it and opened smartripper still the problem. I tryed using diffrent dvd´s still that problem. I can RIp the movies directly with dvd2mpg squeezer but when i want to rent a dvd i have to rip it first (because of the time it takes to rip) now i have been writing too much and any reply is a good replay (accept flaming)

This is just a shot in the dark here (though that error message does sound familiar to me), but is your uncle's ASPI layer installed correctly and up to date?

    http://www.adaptec.com/worldwide/support/supporteditorial.html?prodkey=ASPI_Layer_Upkeep

See that page for instructions, and at the bottom of that page are the links to the ASPICHK.EXE file (to check first of all), then the updated ASPI32.EXE for updating/installing.

  3. Unlocking with a player means the following (usually foolproof):

Load up your DVD with a software player. Go to a still menu (e.g., scene selection or language selection). Press "pause". Now, load up your ripper and the DVD will already be authenticated by your software player.

If there are no still menus (rare), go to a trailer and press pause.

    Regards.
