It's the audio in the AVI that's encoded in a way TMPGEnc can't understand. This has nothing to do with the fact that the video is XviD encoded. You have to extract the audio and convert it to some format that TMPGEnc understands (WAV works best). This is most easily done with VirtualDub. First, make sure your system is equipped with the codec needed to decode the audio - use GSpot to find out this.

The problem is that you can't read the audio of the AVI. Regardless of what you want to encode to, this fact remains the same. Since it's already AVI, it makes no sense to convert to AVI, and if you can convert it at all, you can convert it to mpeg 1 or 2 (and then to VOB) without any differences in the procedure besides using different settings/templates in TMPGEnc.

You are going to need to extract the audio first. This is the process that worked for me.

    1. Load file into VirtualDub (latest version). Save the audio as a wave file with no compression (it will be large). Make sure that you set

    2. Save the avi with no audio.

    3. Load the files into TMPGEnc and process.

There is a more detailed guide in the guide section.

    Hope this helps.
