Yes, it's true. I just ordered one. Hopefully it will arrive as promised.

OfficeMAX has a MicroAdvantage +/- 4x burner for $200, less a $70 instant discount/rebate, less a $30 coupon, less a $50 mail-in rebate, then add back sales tax (mine was $8.25 because of where I live). My burner will cost $58 in the end.

This is probably only good for USA customers.

Here's how to do it:

STEP 1- Use one of these these coupons
http://p01.com/u.d?akYV6y4oS1k5ksbj=3741]Main Coupon.
http://p01.com/u.d?UEYziNHoS1k4yMaG=3671]Alternate #1
http://www.officemax.com/special/letter1201]Alternate #2
Alternate #3($15 OFF only)

That will give you an instant online $30 off $150 coupon (or $15 off $150 coupon) for officemax. Sign up for the mailing list if you are required. Some require, some don't.

STEP 2- Go order this item (Micro Advantage 4X Dual Format DVD+R/RW and -R/RW Drive). Ignore all that "no coupons" BS. It works anyway.
STEP 3- Print the rebate form.
Final price is $100 and you'll send in for a $50 rebate ... final price = $50 plus tax!!! My first burner was about $800 or so... big difference 3 years makes on new technology ... Enjoy! ... Just bought one for family member for Christmas.

If this works out for you ... remember me.
If it doesn't, please don't flood my PM with hate mail.

And with all this money you're saving, you can toss a few bucks my way or at Baldrick (via site donations).

3. I can only wonder....

Sure were a lot of hoops to jump through to get it.

Also note:
**THIS OFFER CANNOT BE USED IN CONJUNCTION WITH ANY OTHER COUPON OFFERS**

I wonder if using that $30 coupon is going to keep you from getting the rebates?

dvd writers, left column main page, has plenty of user comments on it if you want, seems that the disks it writes doesnt play in any other recorder for some. e.g.
"Purchased this item from office depot for $129 with $50 rebate. The first one I got had a box that had shipping problems. I burned one dvd using memorex +r dvd media and it burned fine however would not play on my panasonic s35 player. Then next day it would read but not write on imitation 1x media then it would not read anything. I returned in and got a new one. The next one had the same problems, difficulty reading and then I read the post about the firmware. "

I don't put much stock in user reviews. Something like discs not working in a standalone could simply be improper formatting on the disc or not authoring, just burning data discs. You never know.

It sucks the deal is gone. I tried.

I know it worked for at least a handful of people.

Weird. I just bought one via your instructions about 30-45 minutes ago. Their site was slow as schit, but it worked. I bought some of the Fuji CD-Rs that were on sale for $.99 AR; not sure if it matters if you need to buy something that wasn't totally free AR in conjunction with the burner & the coupon.

Cool.

I've got 2 more coupons to post here too, one for $15 OFF, another one for $30 OFF (new one).

But before I do that, I'm making sure two of my friends can get them, as the earlier links I posted here went down. At least for a while. Glad they're still working intermittantly (sp?).

Click on one of the links in the original post. There are 4 coupons there, and I know at least 2 of them are fine, if not all.

Just be aware OfficeMax.com is going slow right now... too many orders I guess. 8)

If you have bought one of these, just reply and let me know.
Curious if this helped or was a waste of board space.

Offer still valid through tomorrow.

Gotten more than 1000 views, but so few replies.

Great catch!

Cheap DVD+- burners have arrived. Just like cheap CDR burners did years ago.

Time marches on. Predicted!

15. Just wanted to say thanks...the double coupons and rebate worked for me. I should receive the drive today, although after reading about some of the horror stories here and on other sites, I wonder if I'll keep it.

I'm planning on using it in an external firewire enclosure with my laptop, so I may be unable to update to the current firmware. Looks like BTC is getting ready to roll out v47, which is supposed to fix most of the media compatibility issues, but if I can't take advantage of it...

Hey Smurf , why does a person need billions of burners ?
Don't you have a half a billion already ?

I'm giving my old Pioneer 103 to a family member, along with an ATI AIW card, and my personal 1-on-1 tutoring ... for Christmas.

I have two full systems to maintain, as I do more than just hobby work these days. Just got done upgrading systems, opened a company with an old college buddy. Gonna use these for work now too.

I got my BTC drive in Monday, and I've burned about 25 discs on it so far. Ritek, TDK, Maxell DVD-R all went fine. Gonna try Princo this weekend, as well as DVD+R discs if I can find the RICOHJPN ones for the right price. Great new dual burner, only flaw was it made 1 coaster from a TDK DVD-R 2x.

I updated the firmware to 0043 after it did that, and no problems since. That seems to have done what was needed.

I think most complaints about this drive are from newbies that haven't got a clue or from those that are using junk media. I haven't seen a problem yet and I analyze and dissect everything I buy.

It acts better than my old 103, and that's quite a compliment. I'm definitely happy with the purchase. All for only $58. Now if I could only find a good sale on DVD+R 4x discs, I'd be even happier.

Was a good week for shopping! Also chunked my old MadDog 16x DVD-ROM in favor of a new Pioneer 120 drive. And added a Sima SED-CM, another purchase that has done exactly what I wanted.

I used to have some female cousins that I gave a lot of 1 on 1 tutoring to.
Too bad they're old and ugly now.
