I just ordered a Sony TRV-950 camera.
I am a photographer, but this is my first video camera.
I also ordered a Firewire card and DVD-RW
Is there anything else I should get?
Will the adaptec software handle the DVD writing?
I would like to output the video to DVD for viewing.
No major editing. Just some DVD home videos.
thanks!

The adaptec software should be OK, although I've never used it myself.
I'm guessing the video camera will probably come with software for copying the miniDV over to the PC. If not DVIO should do the trick(free).
You will also need an AVI --> MPEG2 encoder like TMPGENc Plus, CCE, or Canpus ProCoder(they cost $$)
If you want to create an AC3 audio file, you'll need HeadA3he or BeSweet(both free).
Then you'll need authoring software. You might get something with the burner, but if not I suggest TMPGENc DVD Author or DVD-Lab if you want tools able to work on a higher than average level. If you want something a little more on the click and create side, then DVDComplete or anyDVD might do as well.
All the tolls mentioned can be found in the TOOLS section, and there are a ton of GUIDES and forum POSTS to along with them.
Enjoy the new toys!
