  1. I have been trying this for a few sleepless nights and still can't figure what's wrong.

My DVD burner comes with a MyDVD which captures allows me to capture video in MPEG 2 via Firewire from my Sony TRV17 MiniDV.

This works great with capturing from MiniDV output and I was able to encode directly to MPEG2 for DVD burning.

However, since Sony TRV17 has the analog pass through capability, I connected an analog source to the TRV17 and output via the Firewire to PC capturing using the MyDVD.

Somehow MyDVD keeps giving me an error (DVDErr -47003) indicating that the error on the video stream format from the firewire.

I've search through all that I can find in this website as well as the sea of internet and can't find an answer.

Can anybody help? Should I use another capturing software to capture to MPEG2 directly? If so, any suggestion?

    THANK YOU in advance....

    Hi,

The problem is the "device control". MyDVD do not allow you to disable the device control. So when you hit the "capture", the program moves the tape and trys to read from the dv tape. If you do not have have the tape inserted then you will get a error message. If you have a tape insertewd then you will get a blank capture unless you are also doing a recording. The only ways to capture the pass-through dv signal is to use a program like windv, or some Ulead programs like MovieFactory or Video Studio which you can turn off the "device control". Hope this answer your question.
