  1. I currently own an original ATI All-In-Wonder Radeon. I've had it for four years and have been quite impressed with its performance. Recently I have been working editing some videos using a DV camcorder and I must say I like DV, but mainly because of its file size. My question is can I use my All-In-Wonder to capture analog video to DV files? Is their a codec that does this? Right now I'm considering getting an ATI 9600XT and a Pyro AV link.

I also would like to know, right now, in order to record videos back to VHS, I need to change my video resolution to 800x600 and enable TV out, then use the ATI file player at full-screen (of course trying not to move the mouse so it disappears and doesn't get recorded to tape. LOL). Is their better way to record back to VHS with my card, or would the Pyro DV link be my best bet?

  2. I did it with my AIW 128Pro and the MainConcept DV codec.
I had to change the processor up to K7 T1200 MHz to cope with the real time compression.
Also swapped the field order in the encoder setting because the AIW is A-first while DV must be B-first.
The result (coming from Hi8 tapes) were nice while in DV, some artifacts came out after Mpeg2 encoding, but using a high bitrate (8000) they weren't so visible.
    Hope it helps.

  3. SO you have a DV camera with firewire? (or at least access to one). In that case check if the DV cam has analog inputs and even better if it supports pass through. If this is the case you can use the DV cam as your A to D device and capture the DV in realtime to the PC via firewire.
