Hey.. i was wondering.. couple of years go when i was just starting out in Video processing, FlasKMPEG and tmpgenc where the tools to use. Now there are LOTS of choices. Question is.. Is FlaskMPEG still a good tool to use? or has it been "outdated" by the newer tools that have shown up recently?

    Thanks for your comments..

  2. i dont like flaskmpeg because it's crash-happy and complex. I like to just go from Vdub to TMPGEnc or from DVD2AVI to TMPGEnc.

  3. Actually, the newer versions of FlaskMPEG are rather stable... As for "complex"...

One could say that the DVD2AVI --> frameserving route is MUCH more complex than FlaskMPEG.

IMHO, FlaskMPEG is still the best way of encoding VCDs, especially if you want hard-encoded subtitles (if you want to use the bbMPEG or Panasonic, or arguably, perhaps frameserving to TMPGEnc). What other program lets you PREVIEW subtitles before encoding to make sure that you've selected the right one? (without the hassle of extracting things and frameserving).

FlaskMPEG is at a disadvantage where you want to use more advanced features like doing all sorts of filtering or in frameserving or multipass encoding. It is also generally slower than the other methods.
