  1. Just for your info, I read most of the guides, which I found to be very informative and interesting.

My question is about backing up some of my dvd movies. I want to make copies of some the movies that I like to watch alot, like the matrix, starwars, etc...

Problem is they are all dual layered. So there needs to be some sort of compression to fit it all onto one dvdr. (i have a dual formate buring by the way +- r)

So I read the information about the differnt programs that could be used to fit a dvd9 onto a dvd5.

Here is my question. I have a 56inch widescreen hdtv. The video quality is my top priority. My dad and I are both video fanatics. When I make these back up copies, I want the best quality I can get. I dont care about anything else. The menues, extras, other languages. I just want the movie with the english dolby digital track. (HIGHEST VIDEO POSSIBLE!)

Which program will best suit my needs?

The only way to get the highest video quality possible is to make the backup with no compression. DVDShrink will work fine, but if the movie is more than 4.3 gig then you'll have to split it onto two disks.

If you want the movie all on one disk and the files are too big for one disk then you'll have to compress it- but then video quality wouldn't be your top priority- getting it on one disk would be the most important.

  4. If you want movie only, Max possible quality within the constraint of one disk, and Ac3 audio, single soundtrack, you need to extract the movie and re-encode using Cce or TmpGenc multipass. Then re-author and burn.

Another nice thing about DVDShrink is you can compress different parts of the movie at different quality settings. So if there is a lot of action at the end of the movie, you can compresse the beginning more, and less at the end.

  9. how do you split a dvd using dvd shrink?

DO you just make 2 re encodes...one with the first half of the movie
the other with the 2nd half using the start end tool?

  11. ok my last couple of questions.

Does dvd shirnk move the encription on the dvd, or do I have to use dvd decrypt. If I use decrypt, then do I remove the encription before or after using dvd shrink.

Second question: What program do you recomend to actually burn the dvd?

  13. Ok so dvd shrink will take care of the encription for me.

Now what bout me second question. What burning program works for you guys with dvd shrink. I would prefere it to be free, but if I have to spend like 20 bucks on it, then fine.

  15. If burning to DVD-R, I'd suggest you give burnatonce a try.
    http://www.dvdshrink.info/burnatonce.php
It's a free, user-friendly and reliable burning software.
It can be used to burn to DVD+R but require a third party file and registration key (not easy to get from what I've heard).
They also do not give support at its official forums when burning to DVD+R.

  16. ifoedit can also easily strip the movie and ac3 files down for you. Also you can pick up dual sided ritek discs if or when you want to slip the dvd into 2 and keep everything contained on one disc

  17. if you are going to go with dvd shrinkm download dvdshrinkiso. This automates the process of burning (using decrypter), making it a one stop shop (if you have a dvd and a dvd burner).................and its free!!!

otherwise, I use nero express (latest non 6 version)
