    Okay...

I've been converting DVDs into DivXs for about a year now. My process is to use forty-two to 1CD DivX, then DivXDoctor and/or Quicktime Pro(if I want to pump up sound). The provlem is that doctoring and using QTpro to increase volume both result in mov containers.

I recently had the need to play one of these movies on a PC at work (no not slacking off, my boss wanted to see my wedding video :P) but despite spending an hour or so surfing the net and downloading various players I couldn't find anything that can play the movie.

Obviously I've tried QTplayer with the DivX5.1 codec installed but no cigar (error message about trying to DL codec but cannot locate). I've also tried DivX's own player, Ace Media Player and Mandervideo's player (all of which claim to be able to play DivXs AND mov files - but none of them mention DivXs contained in mov files).

The closest I got to success was using 'RAD Video Tools' to convert the mov into an avi,. but despite the process taking an hour or more on a 2.5GHz P4 the final video was just a white screen (and the duration isonly about 54min while the original was more like 80min).

    Any suggestions much appreciated. Cheers!

you could always export to .mp4 with quicktime which should play with no problems on a PC.

Okay ... apparently I was brain dead yesterday

After reading Thargok's post I realised I had encoded all these films with 3ivx and not divx. Unfortunately even after getting the 3ivx codec on the PC I can now see the video but have a crackling noise instead of the audio track! Also in WMP in particular it still seems to play at 1.5x speed, speed is OK in QTplayer and VLC though.

I'm asking the 3ivx folks for suggestions now.

PS AntnyMD, VLC could indeed play the video (even before installing the 3ivx codec) but it plays without any sound at all (no crackling).
