  2. I downloaded TMPGEnc DVD Author and tried to "convert" a file, it all worked until when I watched on it on my dvd, after about 7 minutes it get all fucked up.

    Why?

    And when I look on the size on the file(s) in the dvd thing they are only like 2-300mb.

    What's wrong?

  4. DVDLAB is great if it works! It always stuffs up (With a different problem everytime). Userface is great, takes up too much room on your hard disk as usually you have to demux for good results.

    Recently I have started using TMPGEnc DVD Author and Ulead DVD Workshop 2.

    Ulead DVD Workshop seems to be better product than the rest. I have not fully tested as yet but is very very impressive so far.

  5. Am I the only one using PowerDirector from Cyberlink??

    http://www.gocyberlink.com/english/products/product_main.jsp?ProdId=45

    The newest version seems to have everything you would need and for under $100..

    Been using it since Version 2 and version 3 is even better with Timelines, PiP and all the Transitions/effects/titles and DVD Authoring options..

    I would recommend this to anyone that wanted 1 product that captured, edited, produced and burned DVD's.

  6. DVD-Video = Adobe EncoreDVD. Works really well for me apart from one little problem that is probably caused by something else - upside down & inverted motion thumbnails.
    DVD-Audio = Minnetonka DiscWelder Chrome with SurCode MLP. Apart from primitive menu creation, this app is flawless.

    All Audio creation is done with Steinberg's Nuendo with the DD Encoder for this, allVideo content a combination of Premiere Pro, After Effects, Photoshop & TMPGEnc Plus.

    All Audio & Video on different machines, naturally.

  7. I mostly use Unlead Dvd Creator,Unlead Movie Factory 2.x but since i need to add subtitles to my work i use Sonic Scenarist!!!
    It's very difficult but it's the best!!!
    Peace!!!

  8. Agreed about Scenarist, but it's also $30,000.
    You can do subtitles perfectly easily in Adobe's EncoreDVD - we do it all the time.
    There are 2 methods, either direct text entry where you need it, or better still do a text import. All you need is the number, timecode in, timecode out and your text. Save as text file and simply import into the relevant timeline.
    We'd love Scenarist, but cannot justify the price of the beast.

    use tmpgenc/ulead for speedy no hassle builds.

  12. Video:
    AVI -> MPEG (TMPGENC)

    Audio:
    AVI -> WAV (Goldwave)
    WAV -> AC3 (AC3ENC)

    Subtitles:
    *.* -> SRT (subtitle Workshop)
    SRT -> SUP (Srt2Sup)

    Authoring:
    MPEG + AC3 + SUP -> VOB/IFO (IfoEdit)
    If menus are needed, then reauthor VOBs in DVD-Lab and fix language, subtitle colors, etc., using IfoEdit again.

    Checking:
    PowerDVD

    Burning:
    Nero

    Can you use it to burn an avi file on to a dvd to watch on your television/dvd player?

    it does
    Damn straight it does.....I'm glad I have been using it as long as I have and figured out all the ins and outs. Now that dual layer burners are coming out I'll be all ready. Now I just have to wait for a version of tmpgenc that encodes mpeg2's up to 8.5 gig.

    I have been using Maestro for over two years now(and yes my company actually brouht it) and i have never had a failure with it. I have authored many dual layer feature length movies with everything on it. I also have Scenarist and DVD Studio Pro (reworked Maestro for Mac) at my disposal which is probably just as good but I always find myself authoring on Maestro.

    That was not aimed at you, bluestar88 hijacked the thread and Baldrick edited his post telling him not to hijack.

    Scenarist is my pick after many months of trying the majority of all availableb packages. Scenarist came out on top however it is not without its gremlins I like to say it is a program that you love to hate.
    I aslo use ReelDVD for quick jobs and found it to be a crucial stepping stone to Scenarist as I saw many similarities in both applications and it eased my pain in getting the jist of things in Scenarist.

    I know that Scenarist and ReelDVD don't have built-in menu creation systems, but if your are going to use either you should really be using programs like Photoshop for still menu creation and Adobe After Effects for motion menu creation.

    Cheers Toshkin!!!

    DVD-lab and occasionally Tmpgenc DVD Author.

  22. I don't 'author' as you probably would. I don't use a menu, I like to plop the DVD in and it starts playing a soon as the DVD enters the player. If I fall asleep I don't have to listen to 'menu music' (if any) all night, player just goes to its 'screensaver'.

    But the combination I use is Pinnacle Studio 9 (with Pinnacle AV/DV capture card) to capture DVD NTSC, open the captured .mpg file in TMPG DVD Author to make the .vob, .ifo files. Doing it in Studio 9 takes about 4 hours to process, TMPG does it in about 30 mins. Have had no problems.
    If it works, don't fix it.

    I like DVD Architect. It's a powerfull tool, yet VERY easy to use. I would say it has only one drawback. Button styles are limited. Version 1.0 couldn't handle subtitles, which was corrected in version 2.0 (I haven't tried it yet). Anyway, a "must have" tool.

    You need to add Pinnacle Studio 9.0 to the list.

  25. I use Vegas Video4 and find it does all that I want. Sometimes I will render AVI to mpg using TMPGe if greater control is needed.

    I use TMPGEnc DVD Author!

    I was using MovieFactory (easy to use and nice looking menus) but I was having audio sync issues that were driving me crazy. Also, there were not enough menu templates for me.

    I switched to TMPGEnc DVD Author and that was the end of my audio sync and menu problems.

    Also, I had been studying how to put VCD on DVDs when I realized TMPGEnc DVD Author would do that for me. What a breeze...works perfectly and doesn't take extra software to do it.

  28. I have found DVD-lab to be the most useful. I like the flexibility.

    I think the poll would be more useful to newbies if it was broken up into price catagories or had the street price listed beside the software. I don't think I'll ever spend $500 (or more) on a authoring program, so that limits many of the choices. On the other hand, someone looking to start a business may be willing to pay a little more.

    Just a thought.

  29. First I tried SONIC MY DVD and upgraded to a newer version. It was JUNK, it allowed me to author and burn a disk so easily and quickly, looked great. The first one I made trurned out all blurry, but it worked because it was about 20 minutes. I made a 40 minute video but it would just freeze in the creating files mode. Customer support was brutal as they asked me to resubmit my problem (a few times) as they were busy and my original problem was lost... how can that happen? All of my files were DVD compliant MPEG 2. I treid and tried and tried and let the computer run for two or three days while it was supposedly creating my files ...never worked. Also liked talking to the High school kid at customer service who it seemed I had interrupted him or I was being a pain in the ass...............WEAK.

    Next I tried TMPGEnc DVD Author and DVD Lab, I can't understand all of the praise on this forum for DVD Lab. The quality of the final product was terrible. It was also overly complicated to use. It worked but the quality was poor and the program tedious.

    I now am using POWER DIRECTOR, this software ROCKS. The options are many the transitions and effects are amazing, great software. I easily imported my MPEG2 and other files (JPEG,MP3's, andSONY mpegs) abd produced an amazing short movie about my life in Japan. I can thank snogger for this "see above" Cyberlink's Power Director is great. I encourage you to use the trial, also download the Power Producer application as it will allow you to burn a 30 minute version of whatever you produce, but you can only burn 30 minutes. You can author in director and produce the disk in Producer, the purcahsed version of Power Director has both options!
