  1. I tried to search but couldn't find similar topic so here it goes, my very first post..

My LG GSA-4040B burns cd-r:s only in x16 mode not the promised x24, what is wrong with it?
Firmware is the latest and i have tried it with different media too.
I know it's not a big thing, but when you buy a product , you expect it to work as promised.

If you guys have any suggestions i'd be grateful. thx.

  2. I know the feeling !

I regularly find blank CD's that make my recorder fall back to 16x... sometimes lower (I was unfortunate enough to acquire some CMC's not that long ago that fell back to 6x).

You may have changed your media but inadvertantly bought from the same manufacturer, therefore not actually changing your media at all. This will be especially true if you're buying from a high street store with their "own brand" or generic branded media (ie PC World round here do PC Line, which is usually CMC).

Try Philips (usually Taiyo Yuden) or TDK and I expect you will be able to record at full whack.

  3. It seems to be the media.... Fuji and TDK burn at x16 but i bought some Sony discs yesterday and x24 was a fact, yippee.
Well, it's Sonys discs for me from now on i guess.

thx to garryheather for encouraging me to try yet another media.

    happy burning

Use your old CD burner, it's not worth anything anyway, why wear out your "lazer" burning CD's for goodness sake?!.

Unfortunatly the LG is a very, very poor choice for burning music CD's. The DAE is rotten, rating only a 6 out of 10 (most drives out there score a 10) for accuracy, and the resultant CD's will have thousands of C2 errors.

  6. CD Writers have never been cheaper. For less than $40, my vote is the Sony CRX215E1. I've burned hundreds of CDs on it at 52x without issue. Works well in the same system as my Pioneer 106.

    Good luck,
