Putting tv-programs (without the commercials) on dvd:s is much more difficult than I could ever imagine. Why? The answer is spelled r-e-e-n-c-o-d-i-n-g.
Capturing the program without any dropped frames works fine with Intervideo WinDVD Creator. However, it is not possible to cut the commercials out without re-encoding the clip. And even if I leave the commercials, re-encoding takes place in the burning process. This leads to unacceptable waiting time. An example: I recorded and cut the commercials out from two Letterman episodes. The result was a 1h30min video clip and this was burned to a dvd. The entire process took almost 8 hours (!).
Part of my problem was solved when I discovered Womble MPEG Video Wizard. This impressing program can remove commercials without re-encoding the video clip. Consequently, I can transform MPEGs with commercials to MPEGs (of the same quality) without commercials in minutes!
This does not mean that my problem is solved, since the burning process still needs to be done. I have not seen any program yet that makes it possible to quickly burn MPEGs to a dvd without a time consuming re-encoding process.
Is there one?
Please, help me!

You can capture directly to MPEG2 with several hardware/software
combinations. Then edit with Womble, Then Author and burn.
I capture to MPEG2 almost daily with an ATI AIW and make DVDs
Takes about 20 minutes to edit and author a 2 hr movie -
Ditto what FOO said. 20 min and Im done. I dont know what you are doing, but it sounds like you need to work smarter and not harder.
