  2. Open avi file inside Mainconcept under Mpeg type tab select DVD press convert button. Your done!! Unless you want to change bit rate and such then hit the detail button and then advanced button to tweak to your liking.

I got the following settings from the MainConcept forum. I've tried them and the quality is excellent. Note the encoding time will be longer.

How can I improve the quality of my DVD's?
In order to improve the quality of a DVD

    1. change (increase) the settings under the Motion Search Region
    2. reduce the value of the Noise sensitivity setting (3..12) if you have clean source or use the LineFilter
    3. change the Search Method to a larger value (but keep it less than 12)
    4. Use the User quantization matrices
    5. Reduce the Intra DC precision to 8 bits
    6. Use the LineFilter
    7. Increase the bitrate

  6. How can I find out what is the best bitrate to use? I am planning to put several avi files into one dvd. So I cannot use the bitrate calculator as I don't know the total length of the movie.

Also, when I convert to dvd using MainConcept should the output file be mpg or mpv?

    Thank you.

If you use 8000 kbps average bitrate, you should get anywhere from 1 to 1.5 hrs on a DVD, depending on the audio format you use. I would sugest that you encode the avi clips as seperate Mpeg files unless you want to edit them together.

If your DVD Authoring app suports muxed files, then you can use the MPG. If you use DVD-Lab, I'd sugest you use seperate streams (mpv & wav or mpa).

It sounds like you've got a lot to learn about making a DVD. It's a lot of hard work, but it's worth it. Keep pluging away at it, you'll get it sooner or later.
