I need some help with this. I used to have os 9 but I had to do a system recovery kinda thing. No I'm back at mac os 8.5 cause I don't have the os 9 disc anymore. anyway I got my internet connection established but when I try to surf the net with IE or netscape it won't do anything and says something about dns error. Like I can connect to the net but the browser won't do anything like go to any sites or anything, how do I fix this? thanks

Depends, are you dial up, cable modem or DSL? If DSL make sure any special software they gave you is installed AND compatible with an OS that old.

this is pulling from YEARS ago, but you have to make sure tcp/ip is set to your PPP or dial out inorder to get an active IP

its one thing to dial out and connect, its another thing to connect and get a IP

make sure your TCP/IP control pannel is set properly and that you have a ip that refelcts your provider

169.xxx.xxx.xxx implies you dont have a proper connection as its self assigned
