  1. I have a mpeg file which is 44.1khz and 29.93 fps, NTSC. I 'rendered' using PINNICLE 7.0. But for some reason, when I 'multiplex' to ES files, the SVCD2DVD software says it's a "non mpeg file." But, it plays well on a mpeg > dvd player. Any ideas how I can get this mpeg file mulitiplexed into a video and audio file so I can author a DVD?

DVD requires the audio to be at 48Khz sample rate

  3. I originally posted in error saying 44 Mhz, when in fact, I did 'render' the file at 48 Mhz. My mistake. But after fooling around, I find that for some reason the (S)VCD2DVD say's its "not a valid mpeg file." But, I can play it on a viewer for SVCD. Go figure? How can I make this file mpeg compatable? I can't seem to convert it to Elementary Streams without it being 'qualified mpeg' or somthing to that order. Any ideas? I think the Pinnicle didn't render it correctly. How can I find out where the error is, and fix it? Some one's got to have the answer....

  4. A few things you could try. 1st is to use TmpGenc mpeg tools to multiplex, or perhaps bbmpeg. Either will multiplex video and audio. 2nd, if your destination is DVD, why not use an authoring program that accepts elementary streams such as DVD-Lab and see if that will accept the files.

Last resort is re-render (encode) from the original source using a different encoder such as Tmpgenc or Mainconcept.

  5. Hi Bugster and thanks for replying.

I've been using DVD-Lab, with some success on 'other' video's. And I'm glad to say I really like DVD-Lab. But it is this one video file that's giving me fits. It's 3.5 gb. Plays on Elecard's player using their codec for mpeg files. But DVD Lab rejects the file saying it's not a 'valid mpeg.' (S)VCD2DVD also won't multiplex the file. I haven't tried bbmpeg yet though. Can it repair or will it accept a file that's not 'just right?' I also downloaded and tried several of the 'mpeg repair' utilities found in the 'tools' section here on DVDRHELP. They didn't work either. Any other ideas come to mind?

  6. As I said, if none of those suggestions work, re-encode from the original source, assuming you still have it of course!

  7. No I sure don't. Like a fool, I deleted the original's. All I have now is this mpeg.

Can you answer perhaps why it plays using Elecard's codec player, but I can't seem to 'multiplex?' I mean that somthing must be right in order for the player to play. All I need to do is make it compatibile so I can multiplex and then create vob's.

    No more suggestions huh?

  8. Yahoo! I found a program that solved the 'multiplex' problem! For those who want to know, I used XMUX by "Elecard." Worked like a charm and didn't wimper. It demultiplexed, I burned using DVD-Lab and what a difference. No sync problems, no blur, really solved the 'not a valid mpeg'.

Thanks Bugster! Your help made me look even further.

  9. Well you have learnt severl useful things during this exercise, not least of which is "Never delete the source until your project is completed" .

Anyway, glad you found a solution.

As to why you could play this 'bad' mpeg. Software players are sometimes very tolerant, all they need is the data in the stream and can often ignore the header info. As long as the stream is valid, they will play it.
