Just transferred my programs over to my new computer and I'm now having trouble keeping the video aspect ratio when taking out certain chapters from a DVD. Here's the process I'm going through:
- Use Smartripper to get the .vob file *Still in correct (widescreen) ratio
- Use ChopperXP to edit the .vob with just the parts I need *Opens up as 4:3 in DVD2AVI
- Use DVD2AVI to output the file for TMPGEnc *File opens up as 4:3
- Use TMPGEnc to encode the .d2v and .wav file for SVCD output *4:3 again
Have I not checked a certain option in one of the programs. It seems either ChopperXP is converting the image to 4:3 or DVD2AVI is only displaying the image in 4:3 when the file is opened. Can anyone help with this small problem? I'd love to be able to rip and encode in the proper aspect ratio again. It seems the ripping part is fine with Smartripper outputting a widescreen image but after that it gets switched over to 4:3. Any help would be greatly appreciated.![]()

Well, after wading through all the forums I finally found a solution to the problem. I actually did a search initially but this one was buried deeper than I thought. Just for the record here's what happened.
I didn't have the source set to 16:9 in TMPGEnc. DVD2AVI always apparently displays a 4:3 image in its preview so that wasn't the problem. To change the source aspect ratio you need to go to Environmental Settings > Advanced > 16:9 (PAL/NTSC) in TMPGEnc. That outputs the correct 16:9 version of the file so everyone doesn't look ridiculously tall and skinny.
