Some videos I have been backing up using DVDx appear to have a problem. At various times, the movie will skip back to an earlier scene, and playback is repeated. Same thing happens if I reencode. I have also tried to rip the full DVD using SmartRipper and encode that way, with same results. Die Another Day and Pulp Fiction are 2 examples. Wondering if someone has run into the same problem and if they have resolved it.

You prolly broke the movie into sections as u ripped it. In your DVDx settings, my guess is that u have the file size set to CD size MPEG segments. In your Smart Ripper settings, you prolly have it set to produce 1gb VOB files. Therefore, when u click the file to play, it plays that particular file over and over.

In DVDx set the output MPEG file to be unlimited in size.

If this isn't the cause, I'd say it's a player issue. Try a different player. It doesn't sound like a DVDx or SmartRipper malfunction since files ripped by both are effected. You may have a glitch, or sumthin in your player set to repeat.

    My 2 cents.

  3. I don't know if those two movies have this feature, but the original Matrix was confusing to back up at first because of multi-angle / seamless branching.

The scene early on when Trinity fights the cops in the dark room repeated several times (just where she jumps into the air) on backups.

The solution was to check 'Remove seamless branching' (or something similar) in SmartRipper I think. I can't remember this for sure I'm afraid, and I don't have SmartRipper installed at the moment.

As I say - I don't know if Die Another Day and Pulp Fiction have the same thing on the DVD's, but it sounds like a similar problem...

Hmm, I know it's not a player issue because the same thing happens on both my standalone Apex and PowerDVD. As for breaking it up in sections, DVDx is set to make 780mb volumes or custom size volumes. That's the only way I can fit the movie on CD, at least the easiest way.

I'll check on the multiangle/seamless branching setting. I was gonna try tmpgenc next if I can't get DVDx to work.

    Thanks for the input, guys.
