That rumor has been persisting for about 6 months. In the meantime, new versions of DVD Shrink keep coming out.

i agree, kudos to dr shrink. but i was really excited about what he would come up with next for dvdshrink. I really doubt if nero will allow him to work on it anymore.

He's been working for AHead for quite a while now. Nothing in the article says he will quit developing DVDShrink. He's probably been too busy to develop it further at the moment.

Ahead's Re-Code program makes it very unlikely we'll see any further development on DVD Shrink. I would guess Re-Code has much to do with Dr.Shrink going to Ahead.

I think what Gurm is reffering to as being a rumor is that there will be
no more updates to dvdshrink. He is exactley right, just because
dr.shrink is working for nero that does no spell the end of dvdshrink.
History has proven this since the last three betas of dvdshrink have
been released well after the initial release of nero recode and also
after the release of the bugfix version of recode
The lack of updates is most likely because Dr.shrink is busy with
other projects that are actually making him money. Im sure when he
finds the time to release an update he will and the official forum
    confirms this.

Who cares about dvd shrink anymore? dr. shrink has nero recode in tip top form with all the features of shrink and more, with a better transcoding engine (although only single pass vs. multipass option w/Instant Copy, but only useful at 50% or lower compression and/or some animations). recode is so very easy to use, incredibly fast (one hour to complete w/1gig athlon processor), burns directly after compile, lets you keep compiled output on hard drive in a VIDEO_TS folder for dvd burning in any program, has an editable default import profile that you can customize to include/omit any audio track or subtitles. I use it to always only keep ac3 dd5.1 vs dts to save room on dvd9-dvd5 backups, etc. auto video preview when highlighting any part of dvd structure so you can decide what to keep or not...and the preview has a slider bar to quickly move through the title...something Instant Copy should implement. and of course, you won't find output quality any better anywhere, unless using Instant Copy multipass on under 50% as mentioned...but then takes 3times longer to transcode. dvd shrink is old news folks...get nero 6 ultra edition latest vs. 6.0.0.23 along with nerovision express2 latest build and you'll be lovin' it....not only for backups, but total vcd/svcd/dvd authoring, audio cd rips to hard drive, great wave/mp editor and more...

How much does Nero Recode cost? How much does DVD Shrink cost? Now you know why we all like it? Hell, half the "my disc won't work, or my disc craps out" posts on this forum have to do with burning a disc using a Nero program. Nero shoulda just stayed with CD burning, that's what it's good at, nothing more.

note that Nero Recode output can be burnt using your favourite tool as it does not rely on Nero to burn it

You may be being an optpmist. There's been virtually no development of IFOEDIT since it's author joined 3-2-1 Studios(DVDXCOPY).

  17. Trust me on this one, wulf109.

P.S: Derrow has recently release a new beta version of IfoEdit.

Well with Dr. Shrinks help Nero Recode will end up so up to par as the make shrink unneeded. Heck Recode already has the one option that I always thought shrink lacked, disabling video.

Nero Recode 2 will soon be released. I have got a beta version (but I can't install it because my old nero vision express demo has expired...)

    Newsletter

Strictly confidential – please do not give this beta version to any third party. Thank you!

    Beta version Nero Recode 2

We are delighted to enclose a beta version of Nero Recode 2! You are one of the first to receive this beta version for evaluation purposes. This is the long awaited new version of our total DVD copy solution! We ask you kindly to not pass this link to anybody else. Again thank you! Please feel free to write about it and make some screenshots.

Nero Recode 2 is both a re-quantizing and transcoding application, and is a world’s first in its class. Non-protected DVD-Video discs and DVD folders, including DVD-9 titles, can be re-authored in MPEG-2 by re-processing the MPEG streams.
In addition, Nero Recode features the ability to convert DVD titles into Nero Digital, making it possible to fit an entire movie onto a CD.

Please notice that this version is still an English beta version that will be continuously optimised until the release. A Nero 6 retail version needs to be installed in order to use Nero Recode 2.

Some of the brand new features are:

5.1 channel Nero Digital Audio support
    Chapter support in Nero Digital
    Subtitles support in Nero Digital
    Burn-at-once during recoding

Currently known issues (1.9.9.14), which will be fixed in release version 2.0.0.0:

Transcoding could occasionally create DVDs which are larger than 4.38 GB which will cause the recoding process to fail
On some PCs the video preview does not work perfectly and only audio is available
The Nero Digital Settings (on "Burn Settings" page) is not localised yet
In Asian language versions, the Nero Digital "Expert settings" checkbox cannot be selected most of the time
The Nero Digital Handheld Profile creates sound distortions
QuickTime(tm) 6.3 compability is not yet fully tested (new flag in Nero Digital setting)
Rare crashes have been noticed on some PC configurations

Features which will be added before final release:

    SSE3 support for added performance
Audio down sampling feature. This will increase overall audio quality, especially in Nero Digital Portable Profile
Improved "fit-to-size" algorithm to maximize usage of disc capacity/target size
Improve resolution of Nero Digital subtitle track in case of low resolution profiles

This is a bit off topic, but coming into the holiday seasons, Id like to thank some of the people who have spent so much time developing wonderful programs for the video community.

    Dr. Shrink for Dvdshrink
    Avery Lee for Virtual Dub
    Lightning uk for Dvddecrypter
    Dsp guru for Besweetr
    Baldrick for ffmpeggui

I couldn't find the names of tthe actual developers of some of these programs, so i guessed. Iknow They're are a lot of people I missed, so if anybody wants to add to the thank you list, feel free
