    On the stick thing...

Here in Canada (at least the provinces I've lived in - BC, Alberta and Ontario) there is no restriction on standard or auto.

I'll always prefer to drive stick. Far better control in shitty conditions. My dad used to have a big ol' Buick with a 6-pack, tons of power and tons of weight - tires would spin in the snow simply putting it into drive.

Same in Texas, if you are licensed then you just drive whichever you want.

Try living in Montana during the winters and driving a V8 with rear wheel drive......hhahahahaha. Now that takes some skill. Especially when you are late to class and it is blizzarding outside.

    Now that is fun.........hahaha.

Here in California, they drive whatever they want (mostly Mexi-Beaters) that look like they'll fall apart any minute...and they drive them, licensed or not. That's why they almost gave driver's licenses to Illegal Aliens, they figured, WTF, they're gonna drive anyway - and for sure, they will - they do. I saw a survey a few years back that over 50% of drivers in the state have no car insurance even though the law mandates it.
    Welcome to California...

No, I agree, the new ones are nothing like as beautiful, although I wouldn't turn my nose up at a new one.
Anyway have one they wanna' trade?

  6. You see that's it's illegal to use a handheld mobile whilst driving in the UK now. I wonder, if you have a handsfree but you still have to dial the number, is it illegal or not?

Personally, I don't ever use a mobile in a car, even with a Bluetooth headset. It's not right. I'll pull over somewhere safe then do it - you see far too many accidents caused by some ignorant arse with a mobile in one hand, big BMW in the other speeding to get to that all-important meeting.

TGPO - you're lucky! If you pass your test in an auto here, your licence has AUTOMATIC across it and you have to resit your driving test in a manual in order to drive one!

Anyway, got to get to the lab for yet another exciting practical on fungus.

  14. Have any of you Europeans ever been in an American(sized) car? Ours have got to be at least twice as big as that picture above, on average... How do you fit a family of four or five into a car like above?

Alot of times weight has little to do with who can fit in a small car, its height. Being fairly short (5'7") has it advantage for me, I can even fit in the tiny little Excalibur kit car I saw a long time ago, its the short legs that help in that respect.
