I wish VirtualDub had more context-sensitive help. I got "couldn't locate decompressor for format 'XVID'" for a AVI where I was trying to extract the audio, and similar problem with TMPGEnc for the video. Is there a plug-in for this XVID that works for all programs, as my media player wants it as well. Is there a way to get all compression formats installed or be able to list what you do have installed?

Well, if you load your video into GSpot, it will tell what codec you need to run your video.

The "decompressor" or codec needs to be installed into your operating system, not just Vdub. You can load in one of the "codec packs" but it isn't recommended as conflicts can occur. Use Gspot, as suggested, and install only the required codecs as you need them. You'll find links to codecs, gspot etc. in the Tools section.
