Hello! I'm having a few problems with burning an avi file. I'm trying to back up one of my DVD's. As of now, I've ripped the DVD and converted the files to one AVI file which is just under 720MB. I'd like to burn this video onto a single CD using NERO. When I try to burn the CD, it asks me to insert a larger media (i.e. the CD can't hold all the data). Is there a way I can fit this AVI file onto one CD (without recompressing the video file)? I've looked through the forums for this info, but everything I came across was SVCD related. I'm using TDK 80min CD's and a (LG?) 40x writer. Thanks in advance.

Nero has setting in "file/preferences" to allow it to overburn as much as you want - at least until it runs out of media to burn onto, and different brands of CD's may overburn more than others. The only thing you can do is try it, and on the burning screen, check the box for "verify written data" so you'll know if you got all of it onto the disc or not.
Just enter a number for the amount of minutes you want to overburn, try 82 minutes or a couple of minutes more (like you see in my example), if it doesn't fit. No guarantee this will work, though. I've had pretty good luck with most overburns, as long as it wasn't too much over.

I just came across that feature. Where you can set the overburn it says that the overburning feature can damage the CD recorder. Is that something to consider when burning a file that is 720 MB?

That's a disclaimer that they use to protect their butts. I wouldn't worry about it, modern CD burners have FOP travel limits, and the lens itself can move laterally by a small amount also. The most that would happen is the FOP (optical pickup) would reach the end of the rail it moves on and just stop because it's physically unable to go further. It shouldn't damage anything, and I've set my burner at times to go 86 min. (far beyond the end of the disc) and it just stops at some point and that's it. No damage, just data missing because it could not go any more past a certain point. Try it and see what happens!

Alright, I've tried setting the overburn up to 86min, and still the same error. When I click on Disk Info (3 over from configuration), it says the blank CD has 79:57.70 min, or 703MB, so I guess it won't be able to fit. Would I get different results with other burning programs like Alcohol 120%?

can u not just cut the credits off with Easy Video Splitter or use a 90Min/800Mb cd-r?

You also have to set the burn method to disc at once to overburn.

You need three things to overburn:
1.) a writer that supports overburning
2.) software that supports overburning
3.) CDR disks longer than 700MB/80min.
The maximum you can "overburn" a 700MB disk is 703MB,a 720MB file requires a 800MB/90min or 870MB/99min CDR.
In Nero when you select overburn in the expert features it automatically sets disc-at-once burning. -
Thanks everyone for all your help. I've used movie freak's very simple solution to trim down the video so that it'll fit onto one CD. I've never seen 800 MB CD's before. Are they much more expensive than regular CD's? Where can you pick them up?

I was directed toa site a while back that listed many of the most popular burners and most were able to go well beyond 82 min. Some as high as 99.
If I find it, I'll post it. Handy to refer to.
I'm pretty sure my LiteOn was into the 90s.
BTW, it's always going to tell you something near 79 minutes. Try the burn anyway. It should come up with a warning and lets you tell it to overburn.
