Well, there probably are, but none come to mind offhand. Why would you want them? If you are trying to find what quality a settop recorder would have, a lot would depend on the source. If you want to compare different settop boxes, I would look for reviews. If you have a partictular machine in mind, usually a Google search will give you a link to a review.

I don't know if any such site exists, either. In the end, they'd have to convert the video to some kind of computer-friendly file, so gosh knows how representative such files would be in the end.

All I can tell you is that the picture quality from my Panasonic standalones -- the DMR-E50 and the DMR-E80H -- are essentially "as good or better than the source" when recorded at the best picture quality setting (XP). As many of us have mentioned here, it seems that the circuitry within the Panasonic units actually seems to "clean up" the video from videotapes a little bit, making truly excellent results. And, the picture quality from my "direct from cable" recordings at XP quality have been superb -- easily just as good as the original broadcast.

Bottom line, I just don't think you can find "better" quality, unless you're perhaps looking at some of the lower quality settings, and would like to compare and contrast those. I'd just recommend going to a "return-friendly" store and buying a machine -- if you don't like the quality, just take it back! Beats me how you could do any better, though!
