is there any site that has samples or pics of shows that are capped from tv with a dvd recorder?

Well, there probably are, but none come to mind offhand. Why would you want them? If you are trying to find what quality a settop recorder would have, a lot would depend on the source. If you want to compare different settop boxes, I would look for reviews. If you have a partictular machine in mind, usually a Google search will give you a link to a review.

And, the picture quality from my "direct from cable" recordings at XP quality have been superb -- easily just as good as the original broadcast.
Bottom line, I just don't think you can find "better" quality, unless you're perhaps looking at some of the lower quality settings, and would like to compare and contrast those. I'd just recommend going to a "return-friendly" store and buying a machine -- if you don't like the quality, just take it back! Beats me how you could do any better, though!
