  1. This is very odd. This player has been so stable for over 3 years now, yet one morning it began refusing all discs I could throw at it. It doesn't even attempt to read them. As soon as it takes the disc, the tv says "Open" and the tray opens. I've heard of VCR's doing this but not DVD players. I tried commercial DVD's on it, by the way. Not copies.

    I'd appreciate any ideas....

Try cleaning the lens. Get a bottle of 'canned air' with an extension nozzel and open the tray. The lens is below the tray. Give it a couple of shots, making sure to keep the can upright to avoid liquid sprays. If this has no effect, try a lens cleaning disk, CD type will work OK. If still no luck, it's probably time to replace. Three years is not too bad for a DVD player. They are just as cheap now with more features. Generally not worth repairing. Good luck!

  3. Well cleaning it has no effect. I've already tried. I was wondering if it had some sort of "CD laser bias" adjustment screw or whatever. I know that PS1, PS2, Sega Saturn, and various other game systems and CD format electronic players have them. You generally just turn the screw 1/8th of a rotation and then all is fixed. However in this DVD player, it's a little more confusing. There's at least 5 odd screws at various places on the lens reader, and only 2 seem to be turnable. I've tried adjusting these 2, and nothing seems to be affected.

Anyways I just don't have the money for another player right now. And whats more, my PC fried another power supply ON THE SAME DAY, that my DVD player crapped out on me. So now I can't watch DVD's on my PC now either. I'm cursed.
