  1. Good morning Everyone,
I am trying to check some XVID movies for bad frames becasue when i converted them to DVD and played them on my DVD plyer using TMPGenc they had some "freeze's" or "Choppy Spots" every so often. I am trying to check them for bad frames using Virtual Dub. Every time i try and open the file i get that XVID is not reconized. I downloaded and installed again the Xvid codecs from http://www.xvidmovies.com/codec/ and it still says that. Can someone let me know what they are using to open XVID in virtual Dub? Maybe these codecs are not the correct ones. I am using XP also...

    Thanks

  2. Ohh i also forgot to ask.....If there are bad frames does that mean when i play the movie on my computer that i should see the "freeze's" also? becasue i went back and played the XVID on my PC and i went to the certian spot in the movie that it had that "freeze" happen while playing on my DVD player and it did NOT happen on my pc? is that normal?

    Thanks

No. AVI players are much more fault tolerant (they can just skip the bad/missing frame)than encoders (which expects each and every frame to be present and in good condition).
So, that it plays fine as AVI using a media player says almost nothing.

Try ffdshow to get XVID playback/decoding working, and if that fails, use the four cc changer.

You may also want to try a later version of Virtual Dub mod. Also, if TMPGEnc will accept the file, try loading it there, file a template similar to it, and select Output to file -- > AVI. This is a hit-and-miss option, as it may not give you good quality, and it just might.
    Hello.
