Hi all. I've looked for the answer to this question in the FAQ and Guides sections but I couldn't find it. What I would like to know is how to mux or remux the .m2v and .wav files which were created by TMPG after I converted an avi file to MPEG2 DVD. What is the simplest and cleanest method to do it? Preferably a method which does not require reencoding of any sort.

    Thanks.

You can't mux the M2V with the WAV file.

Just about any decent DVD authoring program will accept seperate files for the video and audio and then the DVD authoring program puts it all together.

You can mux MP2 or AC-3 with a M2V file but not a WAV.

Eventhough most DVD authoring programs will accept a MPEG file with muxed audio you are better off feeding it individual files anyway since the DVD authoring program must demultiplex it anyways before putting it all back together again.

If you DVD authoring program will not accept a M2V and WAV file but instead can only accept a MPEG file ... well ... time to get a different (and better) DVD authoring program.

    FulciLives,

    Thanks for the info.

As far as I can tell Ulead DVD Factory 2 won't automatically mux the .mp2 and .wav file. If you know how to do that I'd like to know.

I know TMPEG DVD Author will automatically join the files, and I love that program, except that it's very picky about having uniform audio bitrates and throws up a big stop sign whenever I try to add an MPEG2 to the compilation which happens to contain a different bitrate. Ulead will take anything and simply reencode the audio if need be. A very quick process.

I guess my only question now is, is there anyway to output a single file while encoding with TMPG, rather than have it automatically spit out a seperate .wav?

Well now you are bringing up all kinds of different stuff hehehe

You can mux M2V with MP2 audio and get a single muxed MPEG file. This can be done with TMPGEnc. In fact if you are using TMPGEnc to encode the VIDEO and the MP2 AUDIO you can have it eithre output a seperate M2V and MP2 or a single MPEG file. If you already have a M2V and MP2 file you need to mux this can be done with TMPGEnc ... look under FILE for the MPEG TOOLS option and then the SIMPLE MULTIPLEX option.

TMPGEnc will only output a seperate M2V and WAV when you select LPCM (aka WAV) audio encoding because the two CANNOT bu muxed or multiplexed together.

    FulciLives,

Thanks again. I think I see your point. Instead of choosing PCM method in the beginning of the conversion I should instead choose MP2, which is muxable. In other words only the PCM method will give me .wav file?

Well it all depends on what you want. Do you want MP2 or do you want LPCM/PCM aka WAV format?

But to answer your question ... when you pick LPCM in TMPGEnc it will produce a WAV. The other mehtod will produce a MP2 audio track or a single muxed MPEG file (as per your choice).
