  1. I received a DVD of a television program that was apparently recorded on a standalone DVD recorder. I was hoping to reauthor it to fix three annoying problems:

    1. It's a 16:9 program but they apparently forgot to flag it properly so every DVD player I've tried plays it full screen so everyone looks stretched.

    2. The chapter stops need to be completely redone because they're all in the wrong place.

    3. There's a blank screen at the end of the program because they didn't stop recording at the end of the program so I'd like to edit out the end portion of nothingness.

I read quite a bit and it seemed that DVDShrink would do the trick. It really seems like a sharp program but I get an error whenever I try to read the DVD. Other DVDs read fine in DVDShrink so I know it's installed properly. Are there any other programs which would allow me to edit VOB files directly?

  2. Try an authoring program like DVD-Lab or TMPGEN DVD Author. Those have the ability to fix up the VOBs.

  3. I had a similar problem with a DVD recorded on a stand-alone. DVD Shrink errored out and TMPGEnc DVD Author would not recognize the VOB titles.
I ended up using Vobedit to demux the video and audio streams then TMPGEnc DVD Author would import it. I then re-authored the menu.

    Hope this helps.

This is what I did. I have a DVD-ROM and a DVD Burner and neither could RIP the DVD without stopping due to some sort of error but I was able to get it to rip using DVD Decrypter in IFO MODE and STREAMING PROCESSING and demuxed the VIDEO and AUDIO so I had one long M2V and one long AC-3

Then I imported those files into TMPGEnc and trimmed the start and end points ... added my own chapters ... etc.

Final DVD turned out great and plays A-OK. My DVD player doesn't like DVD discs burned on a Panny stand alone DVD recorder so this is my work around for "fixing" that

  6. Well, I got it all straightened out thanks to your help. I used DVD Decrypter in IFO mode as mentioned. Make sure you go into the config screen and on the IFO tab, change the file split size setting to "none". That way, you'll end up with the single large audio and video files as FulciLives suggests.

Next, I opened the video file in DVDPatcher and changed the aspect ratio to 16:9. I changed the flags throughout the file and not just the first header (not sure if that was necessary but it worked). One thing to watch out for in DVDPatcher is the default settings are NOT the default settings of the video you opened. The settings for your video are displayed in the upper left box so use that to click all the corresponding settings and then make the changes you want.

After repatching, I downloaded the trial version of TMPGEnc DVD Author and used it to edit the video and add chapter stops. It's a very nice program once you get the hang of it. It was also very stable for me and it burned the final DVD without any issues. Thanks again for the tips!
