  1. I upgraded to 7.27 firmware update and got it to load sucessfully, yet when I put in any Memorex DVD+R movie, it tries to read the disc then goes blank and continues in a loop. It never actually reads the disc. What is wrong with my player to prevent it from reading the media?

Do I have to get a new Player?

Before I got a new player I'd try a different media. I have a 711 also but use DVD-R with no probs. Did you look up the 711 on the DVD Players guide to the left and see if there were any other complaints ?

PS Here they are. Looks like lots of DVD+R media work. You have to fill the disc to at least 4 gigs or so for it to work./ Any less and it won't work with any format.

  3. Yea I have tried multiple DVD+R media to no avail. I just tried a DVD-R and it appeared to work. Problem is I have already copied over 35 of my movies onto DVD+R and don't wish to reburn them all over again. My Philips is my bedroom DVD and I normally watch DVD's in the living room with my Samsung. It can read both formats with no problems. The Philips states that it can read +R with no issues.

Is there a firmware or other option that could be explored?

Before I burnt 35 movies over I'd go get another DVD player for 39 bucks at Wal-Mart.

But do they all have over 4 GB's on the discs ? Try a +RW with 4.2 gigs or so on it and check it out. All these other people can't be doing too many things different than you are.

I must agree with jtommyj...I have the same player...used it for almost three years now...only complaints:

mine doesn't seem to want to play DVD+R (tried countless times...different firmware upgrades, different media, etc...) and

any DVDs (to be playable) for some reason MUST be at least 4GB

    Remote control sucks!!

other than that, been very satisfied...(when I bought this player I paid almost $200 for it, and it was one of the cheaper ones at the store...)

the main reason i originally purchased this particular player was the multiple outputs: the two composite audio/video (one to surround sound stereo system-one to computer capture card) component outputs (in case I need 'em ) and S-Video; Coax and Optical sound outputs

  6. I have a DVD950 (similar hardware) and I sent it to philips support center to upgrade the step motor firmware.

Now, it reads everything and everybrand.

  7. I also have a Philips DVD711 and burned a sesong of simpsons in .mpg.
Used Nero 6 and burned a DVD-Video on a DVD+R CD but i couldnt play it on the DVD-player.

Do i need to rip the .mpg files or something to make it work? Im a newbie, have only own a DVD-writer for 1 day.

Please describe the way i must go to make it work, i have also one DVD-R so i can test it.

  9. I know it's kinda off-topic, but updating the firmware resets the region-free and original region status of my DVD711?

I live in Brazil (region 4) and I don't know how it was unlocked, since I bought it done.

Is v7.27 recommendable despite this reported Memorex problem?

    Thanks!
