  1. My friend (who has a PC) got some video files from someone. I am trying to burn these as a VCD, or atleast veiw them. Some are WMV and some are AVI. I can't view them using Quicktime or Windows Media Player. I tried just dragging one into Toast 6 as a vcd, but toast wouldn't load it.

Could someone tell me how to burn it as a vcd please

im surprised about the .avi files not working

do they play in VLC or mplayer osx with no problems?

also try the .wmv in mplayer osx it it will play you can convert it to .avi and then to mpeg

but the question is why the .avi isnt converting.

download mpeg2works and give that a try for .avi to mpeg - should work.
if it does, and the .wmv's play in mplayer, its a simple terminal code to get those to .avi then you can use mpeg2works to get them to .mpeg

  3. it doesn't play in VLC, and when I open mpeg2works, it won't let me choose any NTSC options, all that I can convert to are PAL.

Is there something else I can use to convert .avi or .wmv to mpg so I can burn as a vcd?

so you click on the NTSC tab and those optoins are all greyed out!?!?!?!?

if your .avi file doesnt play in VLC or Mplayer properly then you should start to suspec the file being bad!

now do any of the .wmv's play in mplayer? if so they shoudl be able to be converted to .avi and then the .avi to .mpeg2 via quicktime mpeg2 export, mpeg2works, ffmpegx etc

but it will only work with VALID divx files. i dont think mpeg2works handles doctored files.
