  1. Hello All!

I really want to be able to convert this .mpg into .mpg2 to burn onto a DVD. The problem is that it is a damaged .mpg flie that i got from some website that no longer exists..... Anyone .mpg guru here willing to try to clean up this file for me????

I have tried several conversion apps without success. I think it might need to be hand done.... or if you happen to have the file undamaged somewhere ???

    http://www.powow.com/stillwaters/shalommmm%20copy.mpg

    thanks !!

don't know if this is the answer you want, but mpg1 can be put onto a dvd. you could demux it and the change the audio to 48 and then author that way. unless you run into problems demuxing. then i don't really have any other info for you.
pants on, pants off, pants the floor.

  3. What programes have you tried to use on this mpeg?
Try Gumby and demux the file to fix it.
You can do a search on google for Gumby.

does the file itself play with no problems
as in when you play all of it! or does it loose sync, skip or cause the application to fail?

if not, there is a simple muxed mpeg to dvd tutorial on my website.

its the SVCD to DVD but hey its the same thing, just jump down to the compiling VIDEO_TS section and off you go.

the apps are also on my website that you will need

again, just for kicks, try these steps taken from my tutorial. if the VIDEO_TS folder that reulst plays in dvd player then just do this for the mpeg to dvd conversion

    Code:
STEP 6. CREATE EMPTY VIDEO_TS FOLDER
Place this in the root of your HD.*** Such that its location is /VIDEO_TS

Step 7. IFOGEN (creation of the .vob files)

NOTE: always hit the space bar once after dragging any file into the terminal for this method!

Open your terminal app.* Drag the ifogen file into the terminal, push space once. [Depending on its location you will get something like /users/username/desktop/ifogen or some derivate of that.]** Next, type /VIDEO_TS with a space after S.** Next, drag your film1.mpg into the terminal. Space. film2.mpg. Space and so on until you have them all in there.** Typically 5 is max!

It will look something like this (mine are all located at root of HD)

    /ifogen /VIDEO_TS /film1.mpg /film2.mpg /film3.mpg /film4.mpg /film5.mpg

hit return.** Notice it will say “processing VIDEO_TS”

When this is complete, go to your HOME folder and locate the .vob and ifo/bup files.** They may not be here (in which case they are in the VIDEO_TS folder you have at the root of your HD)

If you cant find them, do a search for (null) using Sherlock

Rename the files such that you replace (null) with VTS**** (null)_01.ifo ŕ VTS_01.ifo and so on.

If they were not in the VIDEO_TS folder, put them there now.

Step 8. TOCGEN (creation of dvd standard VIDEO_TS.ifo/.bup)

Open the terminal, drag in the tocgen file. SPACE. type /VIDEO_TS* return.**

Looks like this (my tocgen is root in my HD.* If somewhere else it will reflect its location in the terminal):

    /tocgen /VIDEO_TS

This is instantaneous and you now have a complete VIDEO_TS folder for burning.
try it on just one, and see what happens

first off you have a space in the file name!

crazy as it sounds but 90% of the time thats the culprit for any and all encoding errors

ensure no spaces or illegal characters (!@#$%^&)) in the file path or the file name itself.

try it again with no space please.

    FIGURES!

you try VCDGEAR's mpg2mpg? maybe it can rewrite it to a new .mpg file. aside from that, im afraid it may be damaged beyond repair.

  14. I've had mpgs like this that I've fixed by running them through MainActor or Premiere... you do lose a little quality but it's barely noticeable and certainly better than no file at all.

I never was able to get it corrected using de-mux methods.

There is also a program called rosetta you can download. it can break apart an mpeg that has been joined improperly. I've had it fix a few mpegs. Particularily ones that appear to be shorter than their file size indicates.
    It might help.
