  1. Hi everyone,
I am a confused newbie! I have been told that stand-alone DVD recorders for the tv will record from any signal, so if you connect up a DVD player to it, then you can copy a homemade S/VCD or DVD to a DVD+R disc. I have the Philips DVDR75 stand-alone recorder, which does transfer VHS tapes to DVD if you connect up a VCR player to it, but I am not sure about transfering S/VCDs.

But I just read the sticky thread at the top of this particular forum and it has lots of posts in it talking about how the S/VCD and DVD formats are completely different. So does that sticky thread only refer to doing it with computer DVD burners?

Has anyone actually copied a S/VCD to a DVD disc using a stand-alone recorder and does it play in various DVD players okay? Are the titles and chapters still intact?

Thanks for any clarity on this,
    Debbie

  2. No-one lese has replied to this so I will. You should have no problem recording an svcd to a dvd-r using the std aerial input etc. It s just being treated as another input signal. Obviosly the quality will not improve but it is the simplest way of doing what you want. Unless of course it is a pressed commercial svcd with macrovision on it...(almost zero chance of that!). Chpaters and menus howver will be lost and need to recreated on the recorder.

you should always use SCART input if possible (or red/white/yellow connectors), cos the quality is better (less signal loss) than aereal.

  5. Thanks! What does SCART mean? Do the letters stand for something?

Also, if I connect a VCR player to my DVD recorder to transfer VHS tapes, what inputs/outputs should I use to get the best quality?

scart means Syndicat des Constructeurs d'Appareils
Radiorécepteurs et Téléviseurs. i didn't know that ofcourse, a search engine told me within 1 second or so.

i think yout vcr and dvd recorder both have a scart input/output, so... use a scart cable.
