  1. of media not to ever buy again. I bought a 50 pack of them at bestBuy on-sale and about half or more won't play at all on my Sony 400 discs DVd changer. Thing is this changer has played everything I have thrown at it up until now. Anyway if I record the same movie on some Princo 4x DVD-R I have they play fine in the Sony. To date Verbatim and Apple media was on my "don't ever buy" list now I'm adding Memorex.

Ok I can't say I understand having problems with Apple media, but Memorex has been known as half assed for a long time. Its just they put them on sale and everyone says... "Well at least I've heard of them before" then runs out and buys them anyway.

  4. Verbatim and Apple?? Those have always been two of the best.
As for the Memorex, I agree with Bob. Memorex has a rep, even with CDRs, for being some flacky media.

Verbatim and Apple are perfect example

    THESE ARE COMPANIES WE "TRUSTED"
they broke that trust with DVD media
While both were suplliers of excellent media
both have released batches of garbage lately

MEMOREX had a "trusted" brand name in Audio once
Its so long ago..no one remember that one

Yes the 4X DVD-R. I can burn both formats however DVD-R works with all my players plus all my family members players.

  8. I have burned over 100 Memorex DVD-R 4x's flawlessly on my Sony DRU-500a burner. Maybe the lesser speed DVD-r's from Memorex are bad but the 4x's have been perfect for me so far.

  9. Yeah, well recording to them isn't usually the problem - it's getting the buggers to play back on something other than the recorder...

All the Memorex DVD-R's play fine on any stand alone DVD player I try them in.

I do wonder if the problem is with the Memorex's that are @ slower speeds then 4x (which is all I use).

Apple has only been known to use PVC, MCC and now MXL... so I'm confused why those would be considered "bad".

Verbatim I understand. They replaced MCC with CMC.

Maxell is now pulling funny stuff too, with RITEKG3 being snuck into the spindles. I want MXL only from Maxell (made in Japan).

Well almost any DVD burner support call gets routed to me up here (cause I opened my big mouth andlet people know I knew about them) and I get tons of burn problem calls with Memorex media... power calibration errors, play back issues. And then I tell them try TDK or some other GOOD brand and I never get a call back from them.

  13. I always go by the rule of thumb that if my Sony DVP-S535D plays a disc, anyone should be able to play it.

I have never come across a player so picky about the media I feed it as my Sony is.

I have never found a disc that my A04 can not write to, but a great many that can not be read back properly in all my target devices. The "Memorex" efforts are one such type - I've even got an old DVD-ROM drive that won't see the data on them either. My poor Sony never stood a chance with those !

My crappy hp300n dvd writer that came with my new PC could not erase a memorex cdrw at all. It erased others just fine, so I yanked my plain ole cd rom unit in the 2nd bay in installed my liteon cd writer i bought a year ago. Sure enough, it erased my memorex cdrw discs with no problem. Im not so sure its the memorex or the hardware, but Im staying away from memorex just to be on the safe side. Its the only brand Ive had probs with.

  16. Are you all having failures with Memorex DVD-R 4x's? Or is it with lower speed DVD-R's? I am just wondering why so many of you are having problems yet I and others have had perfect track records with them.

My setup is listed below and maybe we can get an idea of what is different that is causing failures with Memorex and your setups. It would be nice to see if we can figure it out as there are some VERY nice deals these days on Memorex 4x's and if it can be solved others can benefit from the sales on these DVD-R's.

    Pentium 4 2.67Mhz.
    512MB Rambus Memory
    ASUS P4T533-C Motherboard
Sony DRU-500a DVD Burner (Firmware 2.0f)
80GB Western Digital HD 7200RMP/8MB Cache
    Windows XP Pro SP1
    DVDDecryptor 3.1.7.0
    Nero 6.0.0.23

  17. Count me in as another satisfied Memorex 4x DVD-R user. Using a Pioneer A06 with f/w 1.06. Media Code: CMCMAG.AF1. Not one problem, which is more than I can say for the stack of Optodisc Golds I've been burning lately...

I use Nero 6.0.0.19 for burns. Longtime user of Memorex 48x CDRs as well, no coasters. I currently use a Sony CRX210E1, but I've used other Sony, Plextor, S&F, Iomega, etc. burners with them. No problems.

    FWIW.
