hey all, i have a new laptop with a 160 gig hard drive in a usb 2.0 enclosure. i am thinking about getting a firewire or a usb 2.0 capture card to capture tv shows and analog video. im leaning toward the canopus advc-100. my question is, will external capture cards be able to capture to my external drive? i have an internal 40 gig drive, but its mostly full with programs and stuff, and i want to be able to capture 1 or 2 hour long shows

    Firewire might work good.
USB 2 in theory is OK also, in praxis I never test it...

Overall, external HDs for capturing use to be problematic, but this might be old news with latest firewire solutions...

well my problem is that im going to be capturing from my dv cam which uses firewire. i have a usb 2 hard drive now, but i might get one of the usb and firewire hard drive cases. but then if i use the had drive on firewire, how would i capture from my cam?

  5. What about this thread:

I will probably dedicate old notebook for capturing (plus ADVC-100 and HDD in Firewire enclosure).

Then, encoding on my "regular machine" (overnight )

    Anybody using this setup?
