For doing DVD to DVDR, which program is the best to use? I was using Nero 6x and I was getting a coaster like every other time I burnt. Is Nero 5.5x better to use? Anyone that can tell me the best software for burning for this drive, would be great, thanks in advance..

  2. are you using nero 6.0.0.23? i've been using that one for a while, and havent had any problems at all. i use dvdshrink to backup the movie, then burn results with nero. works perfect for me.

I'm using DVD SHRINK 3.0, DVD DECRYPTER, IMG TOOL BURN, NERO 6.0.0.23 with my PLEXTOR 708A. So far I've used IMATION DVD+R, RICOHJ DVD+RW, & cheap PRINCO DVD-R. I haven't had any problems so far. They all play on my stand alone dvd players. Check out the guides at DVD SHRINK, Afonics & Dooms.

im going to kill this burner. Out of 6 dvd's, only 2 have burned succesfully. This is crap. I tried burning files, and it got to 100%, then it finalizes then says burned failed. So freakin gay. I cant afford to throw all these cds away. Too damn expensive. What the hell is going on. And yes im using nero 6 demo. Is it the demo thats screwing up?

I just got my PLEXTOR 708A too and I have read postings on different forum sites about the problems with using some versions of NERO. It seems one would need to find the right media to buy and to use certain progams that will work so that it can be compatible with their standalone dvd players as well as on a pc. That's just my opinion.

I've had some trouble using Nero with certain media. I have been successful in using IMG TOOL BURN to burn my RICOH DVD+RW, PRINCO DVD-R & IMATION DVD+R. I just purchased MEMOREX 4'xs DVD+R & DVD-R from COMPUSA today. Both were $24.99 each. I need to test it out to see if it can burn at 8X.

Trying using DVD SHRINK 3.0 then use IMG TOOL BURN to burn your DVD+. Here is the link to download IMG TOOL BURN:

    http://www.coujo.de/ib/index.php?act=html_include&incl_name=download
Here's the guide on how to use it:
    http://www.coujo.de/ib/index.php?act=html_include&incl_name=burn_usage

First use DVD SHRINK ...then make a folder somewhere on your hard drive and name it whatever you want....in that folder create 2 new folders.....name one VIDEO_TS....name the other folder AUDIO_TS....the audio folder will be empty.....now copy the DVD SHRINK files you did and paste it into the VIDEO_TS folder you created.....then just follow the IMG TOOL BURN guide....This conversion and burn has worked so far for me. Good Luck!

  11. I received mine yesterday. I had 2 coasters out of 4 UNTIL I realized that I didn't set it for DMA mode AND I didn't enable "burn proof." Burned many CDs since last night at 32X no problem and buffer never went below 90%. I'm using Nero 5.5....

Already have the new firmware. Where do I make sure it was set for DMA mode? in bios? and burnproof you just select in the program correct?

Im going to be trying to burn again tonight, but I shut my computer down for now, im on another one. My comp with dvd burner has been on for like 3 weeks. So I figured that might be why. I will post if it burned alright or not. Also, what is a good program for burning data onto the dvd? Roxio any good?

  15. In Windows XP, you can get to the DMA settings as follows:

Start button > Settings > Control Panel > System

From the new window Harware tab > Device Manager

From the new window clcik on + IDE ATA/ATAPI Controller

Rick click on Primary and secondary channels > Properties >Advanced settings

On my machine on each channel, device 0 is the hard drive and should be set to Ultra DMA Mode 5. Device 1 is the CD or DVD writer and should be set to Ultra DMA Mode 2.

    Hope this helps.

    Device 1 is the

My burner works great when I use it with DVD Decryptor. I guess its only Nero that is giving me coasters.
