When I use DVD Shrink to rip and compress a movie onto my HD, it takes around 45 minutes for a 2 hour movie. However...when I use DVD Decrypter (free), it takes around 10 minutes. If you are just wanting to view them from yer puter, this is the software I'd use.

There could be several reasons why yer DVD-ROM rips slowly. That particular ROM may be set to run slowly when ripping (Some are set that way by the manufacturer to dissuade us from ripping). DVD Shrink may not like your ROM drive. You may need to change out your ASPI layer. Do a search in the forums for ASPI and you'll see more info on that. Another thing u might try is defragging yer HD. I've seen posts where folks report faster rip times after defragging.

Your system appears to be plenty fast and agile enuff to rip faster than 2x, but different software behaves differently on different systems. You just need to experiment to see what works best on yours.

  3. If you're properly re-encoding (not just transcoding) with something like TMPEGenc, you could be talking DAYS if your computer is a bit of a dinosaur...
