i have 13 23min long divix files that i want to put on to dvd, but im not sure wich is the bset way to go about it, join them all together then encode, or encode each one then authour them, i would like encode onebyone then when i authour them so i can link them in a menu. but i havent got a clue how to go about that?

Just look at the guides for encode/convert then author.
Converting from avi (DivX) to DVD is well covered in the guides.
I'd recommend converting one by one, then authoring - as you say.
You may want to look at DVD2SVCD to do the conversions to MPEG-2. It can do more than its name suggests.
