Ok, first off. PLEASE Do not tell em to go read this and read that. I have read jsut about everyting on this site. I am looking for some real advice ot someone who has experienced the same problem. here a goes....
As stated in another post a while agao, i cannot get my Mpeg2 (DVD) to encode with out getting choppy when ever the encoder (i use TMPGenc PLUS) changes frames it seems. It is NOT like that on the original avi, divx or Xvid files. This happens when i try to convert all of those extensions. I will list my computer and software at the bottem. I downloaded afew other encoders and it does the same thing. My qustion is...if my AVI, Divx, or Xvid movie is 640x352 then when i encode that to Mpeg2 (TO burn to DVD) then do i have to change the original DVD Output from 740x480? I have NOT done that yet. f i do change it will i still be able to ply it and burn it on dvd? myabe that is my prob? and also...i notice that most of my AVI, Xvis or divx movies are usually 23 FPS and when I convert to DVD the output is 29 FPS? should i keep that the smae also? will it still Burn and play on my DVD player? Any help woudl be SO appreciated. hopefully one of the things i mentions is wrong and that is my problem...Here are my specs..
AMD Xp 2600+
512 DDR
(2) 45 gig 7200 RPM Hd's
TDK DVD+R Burner
Encoding software
TMPGenc PLUS
TMPGenc DVD author
Hopefully that is all you all need...
Thanks
Derek

Where to start?
Such a lot of work for public domain 1960's vintage educational videos.
640x352 is 16:9, remember that.
If it's a '1 CD' AVI, dont' bother, go to the VCD forum.
It's not 23 fps, that will cause you untold grief. It's 23.97, there's a difference, same for 24 fps. Leave it 23.97, that's a DVD framerate (you are being warned here). That's perfectly acceptable for making your own DVD, don't bother making it 29.97, just a waste of bits. However, with a 23.97 fps MPEG, you have to make sure the 3:2 pulldown flag is set (search that).
Now as to resolution. Since the source is 16:9, you have to allow for that 640x352 won't convert to 720x480 without some help, it will stretch and make a mess. You have several options on how to resize the video, depending on your skill set. You can let TMPGEnc do it. The trick is whether or not you want the final DVD to be 16:9 or 4:3. It makes a difference in how you resize it. I'd try to force the resize to 720x480 then set the 16:9 DAR flag. This 'should' work. I'd do a 30 second test encode, burn the ISO M2V and look at it on my TV. PowerDVD will work also, but it doesn't give you a true feel.
If you want 4:3 DVD, then you will have to re-size and pad with some black bars.
No idea what 'convert all those extensions' means. Your converting an AVI to MPEG2 and it's pretty straight forward (VBR MP3 and AC3 not withstanding). You source is 99% like to be 23.97 fps Progressive with a 16:9 aspect ratio (based on your example). TMPGEnc isn't real good about picking this up. 23.97 fps implies it's not PAL, but NTSC. However, TMPG won't know it's 16:9 (which it really isn't, but that's semantics). To TMPGEnc it's 1:1, try that and see how it goes.
You didn't give your bitrates? 6000 CBR is usually okay, but CQ is better. VBR can be overkill for a DivX source. To Be, Or, Not To Be, That, Is The Gazorgan Plan -
Also..can i get some help on this:
-----------------------
I am trying to fix the problem of when i convert Avi, Divx or Xvid to Mpeg2(DVD). Is there a certian Table or tool here that can tell me Exactley how to manually set TMPGenc . Like FPS, Aspect Ratio etc. my problem is ....i encoded a few movies and I tried to match the output with the source but i think i might have set the aspect ratio incorrect. the movie was 576x240 with 23.97 fps and i think i set the aspect ratio to 16:9. If this is incorrect will that give me a choppy movie? Also i got a Green line at the bottem of the film.....
Any Help will be apprectied... -
I know, i've read your post...
You've said you don't want to people telling you to got read anything within this site; but you're asking for an Aspect Ratio Table for DVDs.
Well, the one I know is here:

Hope that helps. Regards
