  1. Anyone have an idea where I can get information on the percentage of players will play a disc without the AUDIO_TS folder??

Been looking for 2 days now and have come up blank, although I have plenty on the DVD-R vs DVD+R issue

It doesn't come up very often. I've never seen a survey becasue most people won't waste a disk to test it. It is 'required' but the DVD specifications.

  4. i really dont think the AUDIO_TS folder is that important.

i'm sure we would have heard by now if it was.

there are quite a few major release movies that dont have the AUDIO_TS folder.

i still burn a blank AUDIO_TS folder, just incase.

but i dont think its a big deal either way

I don't believe players really need this AUDIO_TS folder (unless of course its a DVD AUDIO TITLE..then the .AOB's are in there)

I believe the need for this folder is a historical accident..
I believe the custom of includiong this optional folder was done because of a MAC if you use TOAST and only drag one FOLDER TO THE APPLICATION..then toast errs and opens the folder to create a DVD called VIDEO_TS with the .VOB's in the root directory...
WE ALL KNOW THIS IS A VIOLATION OF DVD SPEC AND WILL NOT PLAY -(even in a pc)

SO I BELIEVE the inclusion of the VIDEO_TS 's companion folder..the AUDIO_TS ....was a quick way to insure proper folder architecture on the first DVD authoring systems..

REMEMBER on A MAC you only have 2 choices..the program itslf..or TOAST
