  1. I'm burning coaster after coaster (compusa/princo dvd-r) using DVD Decrypter or DVD Shrink + Nero/Copy ToDVD. Some will play on my Apex 1500, but almost none will play on my older Panasonic RV30.

I've read the post (https://www.videohelp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=127624) about adjusting Nero for UDF 1.02 support in older players. No luck. I was experimenting with ImgTool and a message came up with a warning about Volume names longer than 8 characters.

Could this be my problem? Or should I just get different media. The compatibility guide stated that the Panasonic RV30 reads DVD-R, so I didn't think that was it.

    TIA

    My advice is:

    1) Keep the volume name short. I see no reason to name it in the first place.
    2) Get some higher quality media (Maxell, Memorex, Ritek) Cheapo media can cause all sorts of problems. An inability to play in some players is only one of them. Princo is the most mentioned name in the forums in regards to problems with cheapo media.
    3) Follow a guide and make absolutely sure you are doing everything right. A seemingly minor mistake can prevent you from making a viewable DVD.

  3. Also if you are making coaster after coaster it may be worth investing on a couple of rw's so you can test your creation before you make a final burn (should save you some pennies)
    If it's wet, drink it

  4. The two most common reasons for DVDR failures besides bad media is.
1: Failure to put all the DVD complient files into a "VIDEO_TS" folder then burn that folder.
    2: Not finalizing the disc.

    Can I add
3: cddvdrecordables.com media to that list (I think that was the sites name)

and point out we are talking about PRINCOs here.

I have tried that with a Verbatim +RW, but my older player doesn't read it.

I've been sure to make a VIDEO_TS folder when I use Nero, but I don't need one when I use Copy 2DVD, right? It just asks to be pointed to the .IFO file and goes from there. And DVD Decrypter doesn't need the folder because it's just using the .ISO file (in .ISO mode, that is), right?
    Or wrong?

I followed that URL, but found nothing. The PRINCOs seem to do OK when I do straight, no compression, Decrypter .ISO burning, especially in my Apex player. I'm thinking it might be cheaper for me in the long run to get a new, affordable player (Apex 2600) that will allow me to use cheaper media.
I will try the better media to sort out the problems though. Any more thoughts?
    Thanks.
