  1. Hi...

Been trying to burn SVCD's encoded with TMPGEnc, but Nero doesn't like the MPG's...Should SVCD's really be in 44000 Hz and 480X480 ??

According to what I saw, 480X480 is a very boring image to watch...And Nero must re-encode the file to adjust those settings...

    is there another solution ??

    Thanks

480x480 is correct and the audio should be 44100 hz. The 480x480 image will be stretched to 4:3 aspect ratio so it will look okey, try play with PowerDVD on your computer.

Try author and burn with something else, like VCDEasy.

  3. Are you uing Nero or Nero Express?

If you are using Nero's regular GUI you can disable the compliancy check by unchecking the "Create Standard Compliant CD" option in the Super Video CD project screen. This will ignore any deviations from the SVCD standard and burn the CD anyway. The resolution, sampling and bitrate must be compatible with your stand-alone DVD player, if you want to play it in one.

I typically use the original movie's aspect ratio and stay at 48KHz audio on my SVCD's and they work just fine -- no A/V sync issues. Works fine on my DVD players and should on most new DVD players as long as the file is not too out of sorts.

If you are using Nero Express -- the option to turn-off the CD Compliance is not available. Only in the standard interface.

I use Nero's regular, not Express and I did try to uncheck the compliancy and burned it anyway...ended up with a green stripe at the bottom of my screen and then after a short while, the whole screen turns green and bugs (freezes). They say SVCD's should be 480 X 480 or 480 X 576, 44100 hz...I guess we can set TMPGEnc to use these settings right ??

So far I burned a few movies that work in my DVD player but...the quality is not very good, though the AVI's looked very clear on the computer...Trying to figure out what I do wrong...

    Thanks for helping

Try DVD2SVCD. It will take an AVI in and spit out BIN/CUE's for burning. Very nice set of applications. Sitting there you can watch all the steps it does to make an SVCD (encoding takes hours, but you get the rest which is useful).
