  1. I'm trying to copy my vhs tapes and 8mm films to dvd. I'd like to be able to cut frames from the middle sometimes it's just one or two frames that are bad. I have several bundled softwares but can't figure out how to cut frames from the middle.

I'm using my sony trv-33 to capture my analog and to record my 8mm off the screen and I'm getting them into my pc using ulead video studio 6 but can't cut anything out of the middle. I found arcsoft showbiz easy for brightening clips. I also have movie star 5 - mydvd - win movie maker and a couple others. I find that the help screens in these programs are very vague.

I'm running xp on a p4 2.4ghz 120g hd with liteon writer. I wouldn't mind spending alittle money for a good package but even after reading alot of these posts I not sure which to buy. I thought maybe vegas but then I read where it made someones system crash when they loaded it .
Better lookin at it then for it

  2. Have you tried VirtualDub? (comes in many flavours e.g. VirtualDubMPEG-2, VirtualDubMOD etc..)

It only works with one of the two types of DV-AVI apparently, but it's free - so you can try it and see for yourself...

It's a very powerful tool, and easy to use.

Also, there are a lot of guides for it on this site, and others.

    cheers,

I believe if you upgrade to Video Studio 7, the capability to cut in the middle has been added.

There is a workaround in Video Studio 6 using its capability to cut either end. Lets say you want to cut 5 minutes in the middle of a one-hour movie. First import your movie, then cut at 25 minutes and everything after. Then re-import the movie to the timeline after the 25 minute-segment you have. For this one, cut the first 30 minutes. There you have it - your one-hour movie with minutes 25 to 30 removed. You can now render it or do whatever you want.

For a more sophisticated editor, I also used to use Video Studio but switched to Vegas 4. If you want to see if it is compatible with your system, just do a full backup, download the trial version and install it. You'll know if it causes any problems before you spend a dime.

    Good luck,
